Commentary

Bodmer's sketch of high and rugged cliffs along the Missouri in the region known locally as the Stone Walls was made at some time on August 6. Designated by the letters ZZ in the lower right corner of the sheet, it is so mentioned by Maximilian in his journal entry for that day.
