Maximilian reported on August 6 that "rock walls are now running down again from the rocks, as if they had been built artificially. We saw bighorns in the prairie on the river. This region appears to be the right place for hunting these animals." He further noted that David Dreidoppel fired two shots at fleeing bighorn sheep on this date. He does not say if Dreidoppel was successful in bagging one of these animals, but a study of the head of a female bighorn made by Bodmer this day appears to have been derived from a trophy of the hunt.
