Maximilian and Bodmer met several Omaha Indians in the area near Bellevue on the journey upriver. Among these were a tall man and his young son, whom Bodmer sketched on May 4 at Cabanne's trading post. Judging from an inscription on the reverse, this unfinished drawing represents that man. His child is pictured in plate 164.
