The keelboat Flora passed the mouth of the Musselshell River on July 28. On August 1st rounded Bighorn Island. This day Maximilian referred in his journal to another of Bodmer's sketches of unusual formations near the riverbank. He identified the view by the numeral 20 and the letter J.
