January 20, 1833

In the morning, rather bright weather. At seven thirty, temperature of 6 3/4°R [47.2°F, 8.4°C]. Genuine, beautiful spring day. The windows were open and, for the most part, [we had] no fire. At noon, temperature of 12°R [59°F, 15°C]. After noon I visited Mr. Say and Mr. Lesueur for a short while. The latter was working on the classification of his fishes. Mr. Nohl was stuffing an opossum. Word was received that cholera had again broken out in New Orleans. Dreidoppel finished the wolf. I stuffed a squirrel. In the evening, visit from Mr. Say until ten o’clock.
