Rain in the morning, better wind; we made four knots, then five. The sky was slightly cloudy. The ship moved a little. About noon, [there was] more and better wind, some rain, heavily clouded sky. About twelve o’clock, latitude 44°3′, longitude 43°30′. After twelve o’clock, [a] brisk, favorable wind; we moved fast, because three studding-sails were set on the foremast and one [of?] the three sails of the mainmast. In the evening [we] still [had] this nice, brisk wind. We made nine to nine and a half knots all night long. Wind [from the] east and southwest today.
