October 2, 1833

In the night, rain. Humid, raw, windy day. At eight thirty, 42°F [5.6°C]. Some Ojibwes arrived today; several more are soon to follow. At noon, 44°F [6.7°C] (at the fort, 42°F). Rain and cold wind in the forenoon. Today Deschamps and other people were sent out to hunt; there was no fresh meat left, and [the fort] badly needed it. Other people returned from the lake and brought with them six muskrats and a number of ducks. The afternoon was dry and better.
