Nice, bright morning, clear sky; somewhat hazy on the horizon. At seven thirty, 5°R [43.3°F, 6.3°C]. Dreidoppel went hunting. He saw many wild ducks but was unable to shoot at them. He brought back [some] birds. At twelve o’clock, temperature of 8 1/4°R [50.6°F, 10.3°C]. In the afternoon I crossed over by ferry and stationed myself near the dead horse. I saw a red-bellied kite, several interesting small birds, Figure 5.13. Musical notation for song of the Carolina wren.and a Troglodytes ludovicianus, which let its call be heard and crept about in the hollow tree trunks. In addition, Regulus cristatus, Fringilla pennsylvanica, Muscicapa coronata, and other small birds, as well as numerous woodpeckers, titmice, nuthatches, and tree creepers. On the way home I saw an osprey. When I arrived at home, Russel had delivered a turkey buzzard and a big eagle. In the evening, a visit at the home of Mr. Say. When I went home, it was raining heavily.
