In the morning we left for the customhouse and the Janus and claimed our baggage, some of which was brought on a schooner, on which Dreidoppel is to depart Saturday for New York. The remaining trunks will be taken along by land. Later we visited all the booksellers and engravers’ stores throughout Boston but found nothing at all about Indians, a matter that was of great consequence to me, and very few natural history books. Then we outfitted ourselves with several light articles of clothing for the journey. In the afternoon we were occupied with various searches and observed the widespread commercial activity, the numerous shops, and truly fine stores of this city. Then we visited still more engravers’ stores but did not find a single print of the country and the Indians.
