Cloudy sky early, severe storm out of the northwest. At seven thirty, 27°F [−2.8°C]. Weather windy and raw all day long. Noon, 22 1/2°F [−5.3°C]. Wind northwest, very strong. Our lives were pitiful, [as] we had nothing at all [to eat] but corn; for the sick and on Sunday for the others, [there was] a little rice. Afternoon just as unpleasant and windy as midmorning; fine snow occasionally flew around in the wind. Very few Indians visited us today. About evening, wind more northerly, strong, and moderately cold. My condition [was] the same as yesterday; [I] left neither room nor bed. In the evening, windy, cloudy, cold; night bright and windy.
