August 24, 1834

In the morning, as during the night, [there was] much rain, wind, and cloudy weather. About ten thirty we reached Cologne and disembarked at the Rheinberg. There had been a large military parade, and we [saw] the very handsome regiment of dragoons marching back to the barracks at Beuel. After lunch I took a carriage to Bonn, where we arrived at four o’clock; it rained hard afterward. I visited Dr. Nees at Poppelsdorf.
