Slightly overcast sky in the morning, [but] the sun soon [came out]. In the night, strong hoarfrost. In the afternoon, light rain, gray sky. I went with Mr. Bodmer to the forest below the fort. There we found an enormous flock of Quiscalus versicolor Vieill., and I shot [some of them]. When I came to the riverbank I saw a beautiful wild swan swimming in the river. I crept up and shot it. However, it took a lot of effort to get it out of the water. Mr. Bodmer reached it with a branch and carried it home. It was a young male, [——]′ [——]″ [——]‴ long.
