The same brisk wind in the morning. At eight o’clock we made nine knots. Rain and wind; the [rain] stopped about noon, and fog set in. We passed the great Newfoundland bank [Grand Banks]. The wind then became weak. Some Procellaria pelagica. The wind turned around toward the north and became a little stronger. [At] noon, latitude 42°24′, longitude 48°30′. Very cool day, especially the evening. The night [was] dark, foggy, humid, and windy—the weather was changing. South wind today.
