Strong south wind. [At] seven thirty, 63°F [17.2°C]. The river dropped [significantly] yesterday. Noon, 80°F [26.7°C]. South wind. The Hidatsas, among them the partisan (akuríhdi) le Fer Percé, plundered a few beaver hunters, taking their horses, traps, beavers, [and] bedding. On the other hand, the Assiniboines stole 34 horses from these Indians, although [they] lost a man while doing it.
