February 7, 1833

Dreary sky, hazy horizon. At seven thirty, -2 1/2°R [26.4°F, -3.1°C]. Later Mr. Twigg brought me various things from New Orleans. At twelve noon, 6°R [45.5°F, 7.5°C]. Unpleasant weather. Dreidoppel shot only a cardinal, but I obtained an interesting duck. In the evening I visited Mr. Say; I had previously been reading about La Salle’s disastrous expedition in Louisiana.
