November 3, 1832

During the night it had rained heavily. In the morning the sky was densely covered with clouds. At seven thirty, temperature of 13°R [61.3°F, 16.3°C]. Old man Hall from Wabash Island, who is usually called “Governor,” brought us a fine buzzard (Falco borealis), which he had shot on the island. Mr. Bodmer went out to sketch. In the forenoon I visited Mr. Say. In the afternoon we dined with Mr. Say at the home of Mr. Lesueur, where we spent the time until ten o’clock in the evening viewing his interesting collection of sketches. There was bright moonlight, and it was somewhat cool.
